Kent AFA – Package 7B

This project was part of Network Rail’s Access for All (AFA) project on the Kent Route, whose aim was to provide a level access to enable passengers with impaired mobility to access both platforms. We acted as the designer on this Design and Build project for the Main contractor, Osborne.

There were six stations on this project: Bearsted, Bexleyheath, Honor Oak Park, Brockley, New Eltham and Strood.

The project was to deliver eleven new lift shafts, one new footbridge with stairs and one new bridge to accommodate the lifts only. In addition we had to produce a design for a new platform extension to protect one of the new lift shafts.

We were responsible for taking the GRIP Stage 1 designs through to GRIP 5 and obtaining the relevant design assurance approvals from Network Rail. We acted as the Contractor’s Engineering Manager (CEM) and Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) for all Engineering Disciplines.

We undertook all of the relevant Civil, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering design work and provided advice throughout the construction period.

We had to liaise with all of the different manufacturers to ensure that the designs were properly co-ordinated.
