Frankham Civil Engineering Visits McNealy Brown

11th July 2022

The Frankham Civil Engineering team was delighted to be invited to visit McNealy Brown Limited, specialist steelwork fabricators and installers within the Rail, Heritage and Construction sector.

The visit was led by Richard Cook – Project Manager, who gave a fascinating presentation about some of McNealy Brown’s current projects including the design challenges that they have encountered and how they have overcome them. The Frankham Team then went on a tour around the workshops, which included an in-depth look into the fabrication of one of their larger scale projects – a new 100m span footbridge beneath an existing Grade II listed bridge in London. The new structure is a ‘half through’ truss bridge that has distinctive bracing members angled to maximise views of the River Thames. By prefabricating the footbridge off-site and transporting the structure via river, McNealy Brown is reducing both disruption and carbon consumption during the construction phase.

This was a fantastic experience for the Frankham Civil Engineering Team, not only was it very insightful to see how bridges of this size are put together, but the sheer scale of such a structure being fabricated was incredibly impressive and a group photo opportunity not to be missed! The Frankham team concluded that the visit gave them all a valuable understanding of steel fabrication and would like to thank McNealy Brown Limited for facilitating the opportunity.
