Duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 extend to the risks from Legionella bacteria.
Furthermore, the COSHH Regulations and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (MHSWR) mandate specific procedures for controlling these risks. To remain compliant, organisations must:
- Identify and assess sources of risk.
- Establish suitable control measures to reduce those risks.
- Implement and manage a formal control scheme and appoint a ‘Responsible Person’.
- Maintain adequate records and regularly audit the effectiveness of the scheme.
