As part of our framework with East Sussex County Council (ESCC), we were commissioned to undertake a programme of Condition Surveys to 50 premises including Primary Schools, Nurseries, Children’s Centres, Libraries and Youth Centres.
Undertaken by our experienced Building Surveyors and M&E Engineers, the surveys involved inspections of the Building Fabric and Mechanical & Electrical installations and our team provided details for alternative solutions to the maintenance issues, where possible. The surveys provided a detailed report that provided condition and priority ratings and assessments, life expectancy and budget costings for life cycle repairs, and maintenance.
Surveys were completed both in occupation and in vacant schools, the surveys were arranged with each premises Manager, with whom we discussed the reason and outcomes for the surveys and any historic maintenance issues they were aware of. Our staff were also enhanced DBS checked.
The surveys were input by ESCC directly into their property database and formed the basis of the decision-making process for future years maintenance programmes, which we are now working on based on the outcomes of these surveys.
Working in occupied schools is a challenge, but we were able to work with the schools to agree dates and the best way to work without disrupting classes, such as surveying classrooms at break times or before/after school hours.
We were able to work in collaboration with all premises to agree mutually convenient survey dates, providing the information in a format that allowed direct download to their property database.
