Frankham were appointed by Next Retail Ltd to carry out the BREEAM assessment for their new 60,000 ft2 retail store located on Eclipse Park in Maidstone.
This project achieved a rating of 59.13% corresponding to ‘Very Good’ under the BREEAM Retail 2008 scheme. Eclipse Park is on a campus of high quality commercial and retail units within close proximity to Junction 7 of the M20 and the new store incorporates a Costa Coffee café.
The Frankham Environmental Team worked with the design team from the early stages to incorporate the necessary targeted credits into the design. This was achieved through the implementation of a BREEAM Specification Document which was utilised by the main contractor on site.
To achieve this BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating a number sustainable features were applied to the design, including renewable energy sources, which formed the primary source of energy for the building and the use of heat recovery systems through air source heat pumps. Low water consumption fittings have been fitted along with PIR linked solenoid water shut-off valves to reduce the potential for water leaks. Low energy lighting is controlled by PIR’s and solar energy is acquired from a large array of Photovoltaics installed on the roof. Comprehensive recycling facilities are used throughout.
