South Devon House is a large Mainline station situated in Newton Abbott Devon. The imposing Building has a natural slate roof, steel Crittall windows and a red brick facade. It still had the original slate roof and metal windows which dated back to the 1920’s. Network Rails objective was to restore the building and to leave it free form repair for the long term.
Frankham Consultancy Group was asked to undertake a full overhaul of the building fabric. The roof was replaced with natural Welsh slates, the dormers were detailed in lead as were the hips valleys and abutments. The steel windows were replaced with powder coated steel along with the cast iron gutters. The brick facade was cleaned and the station canopy was overhauled and repainted. Frankham’s Building Surveyors undertook the Feasibility, Design, Tender and Contract Administration.
