Civil Engineer – Rail Asset Management

We are seeking an ambitious and highly motivated Engineer to join our Rail Asset Management team, with the opportunity to support the wider Infrastructure Engineering team, which includes Maritime and Rail Projects.

We are looking for a dynamic engineer who is technically competent, motivated to help graduates and energised to assist with our digital transformation. The candidate should want to actively undertake further training to contribute to their own personal development.

In this role you’ll find yourself working as part of a young, growing, and enthusiastic team. This role will provide the opportunity to work on an interesting and varied portfolio of projects and structures, covering everything from inspection, assessment, and design of civil engineering assets in the Rail environment, as well as genuine opportunities for career progression.

Role Requirements

  • Work under minimal supervision to prepare technical reports, specifications, drawings, calculations, risk assessments and method statements.
  • Responsible for checking the quality and accuracy of own and others.
  • Assist or undertake Project Management responsibilities.
  • Support project team members, including providing technical support.
  • Determine a project’s scope of works, budget, and programme.
  • Demonstrate developing skills in management and/or a design/technical.
  • Undertake and lead inspections, examinations, and scoping visits with the client.
  • Ability to communicate with people at all levels in both technical and non-technical environments.
  • Have a good understanding of relevant standards, Codes of Practice & and current design methods.
  • Liaise and attend meetings with clients.
  • Contribute to work winning and preparation of bid documents.
  • Excellent time keeping and time management.
  • Willingness to take ownership of allocated tasks.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in a civil/structural engineering role, ideally on Infrastructure projects.
  • Experience within Rail is desirable but not essential.
  • Design experience in a range of civil engineering projects.
  • Working towards professional qualification: Chartered or Incorporated with either ICE or IStructE.
  • Experience of assisting projects and teams with the delivery on time and to budget.
  • Experience undertaking designs and calculations.
  • Experience of Eurocodes, Network Rail, Railway Group and British Standards desirable.
  • Proficient use of MS office-based software is essential.
  • Working knowledge of a structural analysis software such as Tekla Tedds, Tekla Structural Designer (2D/3D frame), S-frame 3D, Robot, SuperStress, MIDAS, LUSAS etc.
