All new buildings to be net zero carbon in operation by 2030

25th June 2020

To meet global Climate Change targets, the built environment industry has set a goal for all new buildings to be net zero carbon in operation by 2030. Is your design ready for the challenge?

Net zero carbon buildings shall be designed to:

1. Reduce energy consumption (kWh/m2/yr)
2. Supply energy using renewable technologies
3. Target a zero carbon balance (Energy consumption = Renewable energy supply)
4. Ensure energy consumption can be metered and recorded (to calculate actual carbon emissions in use)
5. Reduce whole life carbon (Embodied and operational)

We will be sharing further details on the above five steps to net zero carbon design in the coming weeks. In the meantime, if you would like to know more, or require any assistance designing to net zero, get in touch with our energy and sustainability team and we will be happy to assist: Carolyn Caceres – carolyn.caceres@frankham.com
