What is BIM?

Building Information Modelling or ‘BIM’ is a collaborative way of working, a process and an attitude which is underpinned by a variety of digital technologies and methods which allow full coordinated design, construction and management to unlock more efficient methods for designing, constructing and maintaining building and site assets.

The implementation of these processes allows better communication with the client, greater understanding within the project team of the building as a whole and the ability to produce a more integrated design.

BIM is not just a replacement for CAD, it requires a change in thought, in people, processes and technology. It encourages transparent and collaborative working not only within the design team but with the contracting industry and all the supply chain partners. Public sector clients are starting to request BIM Management in their supply chains and the Government implemented Information Management on all government procured projects from 4th April 2016. The next stage in BIM project guidance is due in October 2016. This includes both new build and refurbishment schemes which are in some way funded through central government. Several other Government and non-Government organisations are now actively seeking the benefits from BIM outside of the mandate through their tender processes.

Embracing BIM allows our project teams to ensure better certainty in the changing construction market as a result of the drive for improved information modelling.

Our Services, Proficiency and BIM Maturity have been designed in line with the Government BIM Strategy document. As a multi-disciplinary practice, Frankham strive to ensure, dependent on client need and project size that our project teams are working on projects that meet the BIM maturity criteria of Level 2. Frankham is continually moving forward to providing a larger range of its projects within an Autodesk Revit®, associated complimentary software and processes within the BIM environment to meet the growing needs of its client portfolio.
