St Mary’s Primary School Extension – BREEAM Services
BREEAM ‘Very Good’ has been achieved at the Design Stage.
This project involved expanding the current primary school to support the local need for extended and community services. The design of the extension aimed to minimise the environmental impacts of the development.
During the construction phase, sustainable practices were encouraged wherever possible, including the implementation of a site waste management plan (SWMP), the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) and a Sustainability Champion which all contribute to the BREEAM rating.
An ecologist was appointed to ensure the extension did not affect the ecological value of the site.
Along with protecting the existing plants and habitats, recommendations were made by the ecologist to include bird boxes and install new trees. This was achieved and has helped to increase the biodiversity of the site.
The building was designed to meet day lighting criteria.
Maximising the use of natural day light and reducing the need for artificial lighting, saving energy and emissions. This was achieved by installing clear panels and floor to ceiling windows to maximise light entry.
