Frankham commissioned to undertake role of Principal Designer

Frankham Consultancy Group has been commissioned to undertake the role of Principal Designer under the Construction Design Management Regulations 2015 on behalf of the UK’s largest independent liquid storage provider.

Our Civil Engineering team also forms part of this multidisciplinary appointment. They will act as Project Engineers for the duration of the works.

Our client has four terminals located in prime locations throughout the UK, one of which is located at the Thames Terminal. To aid delivery of chemicals, fuel and bitumen products ashore this terminal had been located on the River Thames. Easily enabling distribution to London and the Midlands.

These works are to the existing approach jetty. The main scope consists of surveying and marking out the extent of necessary repairs to concrete piles, hydro-demolition of the decayed concrete, replacement of decayed and corroded reinforcement and final sprayed concrete replacement sections and overlays.

Active management of live risks

Frankham is working closely with the main contractor, ensuring all live risks are actively managed. Where possible, eliminating through the implementation of adequate safety procedures and the selection of appropriate methods for repairs.

Our role as Principal Designer has involved compiling pre-construction information and advising the Principal Contractor of their legal duties. We ensure all necessary project documentation is produced prior to commencement of works. Many risk factors have been taken in to consideration such as working near water, tidal times and implementing adequate rescue procedures.

We regularly attend site to provide confirmation to the client that all agreed arrangements are being adhered to. Also that works are being carried out in accordance with current regulations.

Due to the nature of the site, numerous projects are being carried out at various locations. Particular attention has been given to ensuring the works do not affect the logistics of operational areas and that suitable welfare facilities have been strategically placed.

Our proactive approach has assisted both the client and contractor, in applying proportionate measures to the works. Ensuring the projects specific tasks are carried out in accordance with client specific dedicated site procedures.
