Dacre Park South, Lewisham – Bomb Incident

Frankham is currently acting at Employer’s Agents for Lewisham Homes as part of their Phase 2 Development Programme. One of four sites Frankham are working on, Dacre Park South, is currently undergoing excavations. The excavations are for the strip foundations to one of the two new block of flats being built. On Friday 22nd April, the Contractor, Collier Contracts Limited, contacted Frankham to advise of a suspected WW2 bomb identified during the excavations.

The Contractor immediately suspended all activities, secured and vacated the site and notified the police. Upon arrival, Police notified the Bomb Disposal Unit who advised that a 200 metre exclusion zone should be immediately implemented. Local residents, a primary school and shops were evacuated and local roads closed off.

The Bomb Unit arrived on site early afternoon and after investigation,
confirmed it was in fact a WW2 bomb. It was safely removed from site to be detonated elsewhere. Once the situation was deemed safe for residents and local facilities to resume normal activities the cordon was lifted. Throughout the day, Frankham remained in communication with Lewisham Homes and the Contractor ensuring all necessary measures were being undertaken.
